| Military: | Robert was attested into the military on 4 February 1890 at London - age given as 18 years 10 months, occupation, bicycle maker. He joined the Royal Artillery, Ser, No. 77452 at Woolwich, London on 6 February 1890. On 21 February 1890 he he was posted to 40th Battalion, gunner. To 21 September 1890 he served on home soil. On 1 June 1896 he was posted to 35th Battalion, shoeing smith. On 22 July 1896 he extended his service to 12 years. To 11 November 1899 he served in India. To 16 February 1900 he was an invalid and serving on home soil but time reckoned as if in India. He was promoted on 16 March 1901 to sergeant farrier. He was transferred on 27 March 1901 to the Lancashire Field Artillery. On 24 March 1902 he extended his service to 21 years. He was promoted on 16 March 1904 to staff sergeant farrier. He was promoted on 30 January 1908 to quarter master sergeant farrier. To 30 June 1908 he served on home soil until discharge. He was discharged on 30 June 1908 in Aldershot, Hampshire having been found medically unfit for further service. |
